The Smart Export Guarantee – Helping Your Tenants Apply: A Guide For Landlords

Most private households with solar PV can earn money through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), but the same straightforward route doesn’t yet exist for social housing tenants- and payments often go unclaimed entirely.

For households already struggling with energy costs, even relatively small payments can make a big difference. We worked with the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) to produce clear and practical guidance for social landlords that makes the process straightforward.

It covers:
– Guidance to confirm eligibility
– Guidance on the documents landlords must provide to tenants
– Template permission letter
– Tenant Handover Guide, for tenants once eligibility is confirmed

If you work in social housing, this is a direct and meaningful step toward a fairer energy transition.

The guidance is free to access via BB:CoP members area downloads folder (this folder is linked to Sharepoint and enables easy updates and collaborative working).
